Liverpool winger Luis Diaz’s father finally released

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz’s father, Luis Manuel Díaz Jimenez, has been released after being kidnapped by ELN guerrillas in Colombia. He was finally released on Thursday, 12 days after the kidnapping. Colombian media reports that the 58-year-old is now safe in the hands of a United Nations (UN) committee who had liaised with the ELN for his release. Footage showed helicopters circling the border area between La Guajira and Cesar, where the kidnappers handed over Luiz Jimenez. Later, the helicopter, with humanitarian workers and crew onboard, took Diaz’s father to a hospital for a checkup following his ordeal. The Colombian government had announced the operation to release Luiz Jimenez on Wednesday, and it was carried out successfully the next day.
